For more than 35 years, Omipa has been working alongside TEC Corp. Ltd., represented by Mr. Park, to support the Korean plastics industry with advanced extrusion technologies
The partnership, which began in 1989, has grown alongside one of Asia’s most demanding and technologically advanced markets. Over the years, Omipa and TEC Corp. Ltd. have successfully introduced extrusion solutions for a wide range of applications, from PC and PMMA sheets to customized production lines developed for leading global manufacturers and, more recently, PET thermoforming sheet lines.
In this interview, Mr. Park shares the story behind this long-standing collaboration, his perspective on the Korean market today, and the importance of combining local expertise with Omipa’s engineering know-how to deliver solutions that truly meet customers’ expectations.
Interview with Mr. Sang Jin Park
1. How did you first get to know Omipa, and how did you become part of the Omipa team?
My relationship with OMIPA began when I had the opportunity to work with Mr. Gilberto Cazzani, the founder of OMIPA. Following his recommendation, we became OMIPA’s local agent in South Korea.
At the beginning, our main focus was to introduce and supply OMIPA’s strong product range, particularly PC and PMMA sheet production lines, to the Korean market. Later, as demand grew for LED and LCD sheet production equipment in Korea, we worked together with OMIPA to develop and supply customized lines that met the specific requirements of Samsung and LG.
Since then, we have continued to cooperate closely with OMIPA and have taken a leading role in the Korean market for PET thermoforming sheet lines. Through this cooperation, we contributed to the successful introduction, supply, and expansion of OMIPA’s technologies in Korea.
2. From your point of view, what are the main opportunities and challenges of the Korean market for extrusion technologies today?
Today, the Korean market is facing a challenging situation as both social and industrial demands to reduce the use of plastics continue to grow. At the same time, there is increasing interest in alternative materials, including paper-based materials, eco-friendly materials, and bioplastics.
In particular, I believe PP foam production lines have strong potential in the Korean market, especially in terms of weight reduction, cost competitiveness, and possible applications in eco-friendly packaging. If OMIPA continues to strengthen its technology development and market response in these areas, I believe it can create new business opportunities in the evolving Korean market.
3. How does being locally present in South Korea allow Omipa to better support customers in terms of responsiveness, technical assistance and understanding of market requirements?
Having a local agent in South Korea is a major advantage for OMIPA in terms of customer support. Korean companies highly value quick feedback, prompt problem-solving, and continuous after-sales service after equipment installation. Therefore, a local agent who can communicate directly with customers plays a very important role.
When technical issues or urgent requests occur during machine operation, the local agent can quickly understand the situation, organize the necessary information, and accurately communicate it to OMIPA’s headquarters. This enables OMIPA to provide faster and more effective technical support based on a clear understanding of the customer’s actual on-site conditions.
Korean customers also require a high level of support in areas such as quality standards, delivery schedules, technical specifications, documentation, and after-sales service. In particular, major customers such as Samsung and LG often require advanced technical specifications and customized solutions.
TEC Corp. Ltd. has helped OMIPA communicate smoothly with Korean customers by understanding these local requirements accurately. Through this cooperation, OMIPA has been able to continuously develop and improve its equipment according to the needs of the Korean market, contributing to its technical reputation, reliability, and competitiveness in Korea.
